LandWatch Monterey County Adds
New Members to Its Board of Directors
Rodriguez, Gutiérrez, and Regnier Represent Diverse Community Interests
SALINAS, CA, December 18, 2004 -- LandWatch Monterey County, a public interest, community-based organization that works for land use policies that will strengthen the local economy, protect the environment, and provide greater social equity, has announced the appointment of new members to its Board of Directors:
- Lidia Rodriguez
- Dr. Juan J. Gutiérrez
- Dr. Eva Regnier
Lidia Rodriguez
A resident of East Salinas, Ms. Rodriguez is a community activist and one of the founders of Líderes Comunitarios de Salinas, or Community Leaders of Salinas. Founded in 2001 to focus on the need for better housing and land use policies, the Líderes received the 2003 Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. They were recognized especially for their contributions to the City of Salinas General Plan in supporting policies that require new developments to provide housing for the working people of Salinas, and that will conserve agricultural land through city-centered growth and more densely designed development.
Dr. Juan Gutiérrez
Juan J. Gutiérrez is a professor of anthropology at California State University at Monterey Bay. Dr. Gutiérrez is the Director of the Institute for Mexican and US-Mexico Studies, aimed at promoting the teaching of subjects related to Mexican-American culture, and history. His work focuses on cultural and socio-economic issues related to Mexican migrant workers and their transnational communities. Dr. Gutiérrez received his doctorate in philosophy in anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Dr. Eva Regnier
Eva Regnier is an assistant professor of decision science at the Defense Resources Management Institute at the Naval Postgraduate School, where her research interests include economic analysis of decisions with environmental consequences and decisions involving environmental uncertainty. She previously worked as an environmental engineer at Groundwater Technology, Inc. and Ecology and Environment, Inc. Dr. Regnier received an undergraduate degree in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master's degree in operations research and a doctorate in economic decision analysis from Georgia Institute of Technology.

We expect they will be terrific ambassadors for LandWatch.”
