Carrying Capacity Workshop Coming Up on July 24th!

A public workshop for the Monterey County General Plan Update is scheduled for Monday, July 24, 2000 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The meeting will be held in the Carmel Valley Middle School Cafeteria located at 4380 Carmel Valley Road in Carmel Valley. This is the third meeting devoted to carrying capacity issues. The first was held in Prunedale on May 15, 2000 and the second in King City on June 20, 2000. Workshop participants will discuss options for the location and extent of new growth in the Peninsula, Carmel Valley, Cachagua, Toro, and Big Sur areas based on available resources.

Some of the issues that may be discussed during the evening include: How do you define carrying capacity? What are the issues the General Plan should address first in these Planning areas? If these issues are resolved, what level of growth should be planned for during the next 20 years?

The County‚s General Plan Update website (www.co.monterey.ca.us/gpu) contains some background information for this meeting including the PowerPoint presentations that were shown at the Prunedale and King City meetings, as well as Issue Fact Sheets.

LandWatch looks forward to seeing you in Carmel Valley on July 24th!
