August 16, 2005: A Critical Day for Democracy in Monterey County

Please attend an important demonstration against Rancho San Juan at the entrance of the new County Administration Building at 9:00 a.m.

LandWatch members played a central role in qualifying the Rancho San Juan Referendum for the November 8 ballot. We believe a majority of the Supervisors intend to take the Referendum off the ballot. This issue is on the Board’s agenda on Tuesday, August 16, one day before the deadline for pulling measures from the ballot. We also believe that once they’ve circumvented the public’s chance to vote on the project, they will allow full development of Rancho San Juan on a piecemeal basis.

Please participate in a protest scheduled to coincide with the dedication of the new County Administrative Building at 9:00 a.m. Then attend the Board meeting. The Board is scheduled to make their decision on their morning agenda. Please be there express your opinions to the Board of Supervisors!

The Pro-development majority on the Board of Supervisors are trying to "out maneuver" the public. We can not let them get away with that! We must tell the Supervisors that the people of Monterey County deserve and demand an opportunity to vote on Rancho San Juan.

The new County Administrative Building is behind the Old County Jail Building, in the County Court House complex on Alisal Street, between Church and Capitol Streets in Salinas.
