Landwatch Supports County Settlement With HYH Corp. on Butterfly Village Project
Most recently, Monterey County and the HYH Corporation have agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by HYH against the County, in which HYH claimed that the County had treated it unfairly with respect to its proposed "Butterfly Village" development project. This settlement is likely to conclude a 20-year dispute over development in this area of the unincorporated county just north of the city of Salinas. (04.14.08)


LandWatch Supports Marina Station
Marina Station, located on 320 acres of the Armstrong Ranch, within the city limits of Marina is the best large-scale development ever proposed in Monterey County, and LandWatch is very pleased to endorse this project. General Plan Update 5 (GPU 5) November 6, 2007
LandWatch has been monitoring the policies in the new “compromise” GPU 5. The plan is currently having an Environmental Impact Report prepared. That report should be released in the summer of 2008. If you are interested in reviewing the policies in GPU 5, click on this link.


LandWatch Supports Coastal Commission Staff on Ocean View Plaza
Due to concerns about the state-wide precedent that would be set by allowing a private desalination plant along the coast, LandWatch sent a letter to the Coastal Commission supporting the staff recommendation for denial of the Ocean View Plaza on Cannery Row. (02.28.08)


CEQA Workshop in Monterey April 5, 2008
LandWatch Monterey County will be co-sponsoring a California Environmental Quality Act workshop (CEQA) along with several other community and environmental organizations. (02.28.08)

General Plan Compromises at risk with a 2-2 Vote on the Board of Supervisors

LandWatch Comments on Rancho Canada Village
Rancho Canada Village, a large subdivision that would significantly impact Carmel Valley, has significant impacts. LandWatch reviews the Draft Environmental Impact Report. (e02.06.08)

LandWatch and Other Organizations Settle with County on Attorneys' Fees
The Monterey County Board of Supervisors and a coalition of local environmental organizations have reached agreement covering the costs and legal fees incurred by the organizations in connection with last year’s litigation over the placement of the Community General Plan Initiative (Measure A) and the Rancho San Juan Referendum on the June 2007 ballot. LANDWATCH MONTEREY COUNTY CELEBRATES ITS 10TH YEAR
A festive crowd of over 250 supporters filled the Grand Ballroom at the Monterey Hyatt Regency on November 9th to celebrate the tenth anniversary of LandWatch. The event was a way for LandWatch members and friends to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the organization over the years. (11.15.07)

LANDWATCH WINS LAWSUIT ON BUTTERFLY VILLAGE (79K PDF file)
LandWatch along with the Rancho San Juan Opposition Coalition won their lawsuit upholding the June election on Butterfly Village north of Salinas. The controversial project in the Rancho San Juan area was soundly defeated, but the developer filed suit attempting to throw out the validity of Measure D.
